Ringing In The New Year
Posted 2013-12-30 by Rachel Trainer in General

Oh no! Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve and you still don’t have plans to ring in the new year! Whether you’ve been too distracted with shopping post-Christmas sales or you’re simply burnt out from five-too-many Christmas parties, we have some last minute New Year’s Eve suggestions that are just your pace.

Local  Celebrations

The Brick House, Pottstown
Dress to the nines at this masquerade. At midnight, reveal your identity and enjoy a complimentary toast.

Sly Fox, Phoenixville
The Pottstown brewery is ringing in 2014 with a bash at Steel City Coffee House in Phoenixville. Listen to Ben Arnold and Cliff Hills. Includes complimentary BYOB, dessert buffet, a Sly Fox draft beer, and champagne toast at midnight.

Union Jack’s on the Manatawny, Oley
With an ever-changing menu of over 400 beers, you can never go wrong with a night out at the Manatawny.  Jam your way into the New Year with the locally popular Americana-alt-rock band, Frog Holler. If you’re also going for dinner, we recommend the Portabella Quesadilla, Monster Burgers, or if you don’t mind getting a little messy, one of their 18 flavors of wings.

Low-key Local
Looking for a place near home to have a quiet New Year’s Eve? Here are a few of our favorites.

Copperfield Inn, Limerick
Schedule dinner any time from 4-10 p.m. Want to celebrate at midnight? Stay for live music starting at 8 p.m., and a champagne toast and party favors at midnight.

Chiccarine’s Restaurant, Schwenksville
If you’re still feeling "burned-out" from Christmas and looking for a delicious, quiet meal, stop in at Chiccarine’s.  The friendly staff and quiet atmosphere is just what you need for a calm start to 2014. This small Italian restaurant has dishes for every taste, but we recommend the Seafood Fra Diavolo.

Staying In
We get it, the holidays are stressful, crowded bars aren’t for everyone, and after a week of Christmas cookies no one wants to squeeze into a glittery dress. If you’re planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve at home, here are some fun ideas.

Games
If you’re having friends or family over, get the whole group engaged in a few games while waiting for the ball to drop. Some fun, yet not too competitive ideas are the Fishbowl Game, Who Am I?, and Mafia.

New Year’s Resolutions
For a contemplative New Year’s Eve, try writing down your thoughts on the past year and your goals for 2014. Click here for tips on how to think through your resolutions.

Balloon Drop
Nothing says party like dozens of balloons dropping from your ceiling at midnight.

Movie Marathon
For a NYE-themed movie night, watch the following films: Someone Like You, 200 Cigarettes, An Affair to Remember, Rent. If you’re not into celebrating this year, jump on the Doctor Who bandwagon. The British television series about a time-travelling alien will leave you confused about what year it is. Since the series started in the 1960’s, you will need a time machine to watch all the episodes by 2014.
