Health Is Wealth

It's the end of the year. Time to make resolutions for the new year! And we can't think of a better resolution than one that addresses taking better care of your health. The saying "Health Is Wealth" sometimes becomes apparent only AFTER you no longer HAVE your health. Make 2020 the year you become proactive when it comes to incorporating the daily habits that will improve and maintain your health. Here are 7 Golden Rules for a longer, healthier life.

1) Eat Like Your Life Depends On It
You really "are what you eat."  A person that makes a practice of eating natural, unprocessed foods prevents unwanted chemicals from entering their body. Food additives are incredibly damaging to the body and the mind, cause disease, and shorten your life.

2) Move Your Body
Over 80% of the U.S. population does not get the necessary amount of exercise to maintain good health. Over 5 million deaths a year are attributable to physical inactivity. The fix is as easy as incorporating a 20 minute walk a day and handling some weights to keep upper body and core muscles strong.

3) Embrace The Outdoors
Not only do we need exposure to sunlight to get a good source of natural Vitamin D, but being outdoors is imperative to improving both physical and emotional health. Getting away from artificial lighting, hard surfaces, harsh sounds is incredibly healing.

4) Keep a Regular Sleep Schedule
Getting enough sleep each night is directly related to the productivity and well-being experienced the next day. Sufficient sleep has been recognized as an essential aspect of chronic disease prevention and health promotion. Insufficient sleeps has been linked to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and depression.

5) Reduce Stress
Three hormones are involved when your body escalates into stress mode: Adrenalin, Cortisol and Norepinephrine. The result of the increase in these hormones is the inability to sleep, digestive disorders and irritability - all of which have negative effects on your health.

6) Exercise Your Brain
The brain is an organ that needs stimulation. Stimulating your brain helps maintain brain connections in good condition and to actually grow more of them! Read, take up a new hobby, learn to play an instrument, learn a new language, challenge yourself!

7) Practice Relaxing
Every day, for the sake of your health, schedule time to relax, take deep breaths, treat yourself to visual beauty or soothing music. Unproductive time is a gift you need to give yourself.

A healthy lifestyle is truly a lifelong commitment - one that reaps the greatest rewards - HEALTH and a LONG LIFE!
